Scholarships for Research DegreesThe University allocates a number of scholarships to provide postgraduate research students with a stipend. These are largely based on assessment of your previous study results and applications are due late October each year. For local students, in addition to the Commonwealth-funded Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA), the University offers Melbourne Research Scholarships (MRS), which are equivalent in value to an APA. For international students, the University offers Melbourne International Research Scholarships (MIRS) and Melbourne International Fee Remission Scholarships (MIFRS). Note that applications and administration of these scholarships are managed by the Melbourne Scholarships Office. Information about how to apply for APA, MRS, MIRS and MIFRS scholarships (in addition to several specific scholarships and grants administered by the University) is available from the Melbourne Scholarships Office. The Faculty of Arts offers a range of specific scholarships designed to support postgraduate research students and to fund travel for research. The Australian Centre has a history of developing additional PhD scholarships in association with industry partners. In collaboration with Museum Victoria, we have a scholarship student researching the Australian Children's Folklife Collection, and another working on collections relating to Agriculture and Innovation. With the Arts Centre's Performing Arts Museum we have a scholarship student researching the history of Australian circus performance and culture since the 1920s. These projects offer exciting opportunities for students interested in pursuing interdisciplinary research and in gaining valuable practical and curatorial experience in museum and archival environments. |
